Why Are LGBT Teenagers Not Using Condoms? [A Survey By Puffta]
A massive 46 percent of Gay teenagers have regular unprotected sex according to a new survey. Teen website Puffta analysed questionnaires from 500 young men aged 13 - 21 in the UK and found only half always used condoms and 12 percent never used them. Ben Savage editor of Puffta said: "We are quite surprised at the high percentage of gay teenagers practicing unsafe sex. Many seem to have total trust in their partners disclosing their status before sex or rely on a monogamous boyfriend to protect them from infections. Despite this, a third have cheated on a boyfriend at some time. Puffta is trying to highlight the need for partners to be careful when they decide to stop using condoms".
Savage is worried that many of them don't know that a virus may not show up in tests if people have been infected within the last three months. Puffta spokesman Simon Johnson added: A lot of teenagers haven't seen the effects that HIV causes because a lot of their friends aren't going through it, while the older generation is more likely to know people who have been diagnosed with the virus. There hasn't been any major safer sex campaigns on television, for example, that this group can relate too. He said: drunkenness was the most usual reason they gave for not using condoms and also was the most common excuse on their boyfriends.
The survey showed teenagers were rather randy, 98 percent admitted to masturbating and more than two thirds said they thought about sex several times a day, and less than a quarter are still virgins. But they are not just after one thing, more that 60 percent date a guy because they have things in common or because he is sweet and nice or has a good sense of humour. Only 15 percent picked a partner because of his hot body... And when it came to a boyfriends looks, his smile is the most important factor, followed by his eyes with his body in third place.
